Welcome
A warm welcome to all our new starters and a warm welcome back to Key Stage 1. The first weeks of term have been so much fun and lots of learning has been taking place. Below is a summary of what is yet to come.
Maths
In maths this half term the children will be looking at place value, breaking numbers into tens and ones. They will also be writing numbers as words.
The children will start to work on addition and subtraction.
English
In English Cherry Class will be focusing on books written by Julia Donaldson. We start off the term by reading The Gruffalo and writing character descriptions. Throughout the term we will also look at Stickman which will link into our woodland schools sessions and Superworm.
Topic & Science
In topic and science this half term the children will be looking at the nature around us. We will be spending time in the outdoor areas and the woodland area to investigate the habitats and plants that are local to us.
In RE we will be learning about special stories for Christians and Muslims, following the North Yorkshire syllabus.
Homework
Each child will have 3 reading books per week(see the information in their reading record).
EYFS will have their new phonics sound in their book.
Year 1 and Year 2 will have weekly spellings.
A termly homework challenge will be sent out very soon!
Phonics and spelling
EYFS will begin phase 2.
Year 1 will recap the phonemes they have already learnt as well as being introduced to news sounds..
Year 2 will revise their phase 1-5 knowledge and look at spelling patterns as well as common exception words..
