Governors

Mr Justin Vaughan - Chair of Governors

I am married with 2 young children, in Years 2 and Reception at Long Marston Primary School. I moved to North Yorkshire in 2000 and have lived in Long Marston for nearly 6 years. I am a qualified social worker with 19 years experience of working with children and families in a variety of settings for both Barnardos and North Yorkshire County Council’s Children and Young People’s Service. I hope to be able to use my knowledge and experience of working with families and safeguarding children to assist the school. I believe that good education is vital in enabling all children to fulfil their potential and provides a foundation for success in life.

Mrs Laura Marsland-Hughes – Staff Governor

Hi! My name is Laura Marsland-Hughes and I am the staff governor at Long Marston Primary School. Originally from North Wales, I trained to become a teacher at University of Wales, Bangor following completion of a Psychology BSc Hons degree. My first teaching position was in a large primary school in Peterborough where I was the curriculum co-ordinator for Art and RE. I moved to York in 2007 and became the Foundation Stage leader and Key Stage 1 teacher at Long Marston Primary School. I am currently working towards gaining my Level 3 Forest School Leader qualification. I am also working with Mrs Savage and The EEPs! on our mission to gain our school the Eco Schools Green Flag award.

Mrs Lindy Illingsworth  - Foundation Governor

I was honoured and delighted to be asked to join the Governing Body of Long Marston School as a foundation governor.  Professionally I have taught in nurseries, schools, in further education and higher education specialising in early years.   This has been my passion since I began working in an educational nursery school when my son was three.  I am now retired and have eleven grandchildren! I live in Askham Richard, which has one of the five churches in the Parish of Marston Moor. I am a Recognised Parish Assistant and am part of the Messy Church and Open the Book teams. At St. Mary’s C of E School, Askham Richard I have been one of the foundation governors for eight years.

Mrs Jane Burnell – Parent Governor

I  have lived in Hutton  Wandesley for the last 7 years. My daughter Poppy attended Long Marston School from reception age and has now moved  to Tadcaster Grammar.  I became a  Governor two years ago with an interest in special needs mainly due to Poppy being dyslexic . I have a background in Estate Agency. However  I now  work along side my husband breaking, schooling and competing horses. I also work on a freelance basis for Go Racing in Yorkshire (Marketing and Promoting Horse racing)  and Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers Clubs (DBS work), I truly believe every child should be given the best opportunities to learn and develop. I work alongsidethe Chair of Governors and also look after the premises side and marketing

Mr Darren Morgan - Parent Governor

Relative newcomers to Long Marston, my family and I moved here in Summer 2013 and are enjoying being part of this warm and friendly community. We have 3 children at this happy and thriving school; William and Edward in class 3, and Beatrice in class 1. I was a governor at the children’s' previous outstanding school and feel privileged to have been able to continue in this role at Long Marston. In particular, I relish the opportunity to contribute to the school's aim of achieving overall outstanding status. I am a solicitor and partner in Langleys in York , with over 20 years of experience, and I am able to contribute legal knowledge and skills to the governing body. I also chair the governing body's finance committee. I enjoy sport, although now probably spend more time transporting my children to their sports clubs than I do in participation! I am also on the board of trustees of a theatre company based in Cambridge.

Mr Gareth Mitchell - Parent Governor

Gareth Mitchell is a Chartered Accountant with many years' experience
working in finance roles in the insurance industry both in the UK and
overseas.  He and his family moved into the village in 2012 after
returning from a nine year stint working in Sydney, Australia.  He has a
daughter, Savannah, who joined the school in Reception for the 2014/15
school year and a son, Felix, currently at Long Marston Playgroup.  He
has ties to the village via his wife Zoë's parents, who help run the
Village Hall and the Cricket Club.
