Governors

Mrs Lindy Illingworth  - Chair of Governors and Foundation Governor
It is with great pleasure that I have been one of the two Foundation Governors on the Governing Body of Long Marston for the past four years. I represent our Vicar, Rev. Martin Otter. My career was in education, specialising in Early Years, teaching children and students in nurseries, schools and in further and higher education. I have children and grandchildren in the south of England and Australia. As a retiree I have the time to devote to the role of Chair of Governors, which I took on in 2018. I am delighted to be working with our senior management team, led by Mrs Flatters, and supporting them in providing high quality personalised learning and development opportunities for all our pupils.

Mrs Geraldine Barker - Foundation Governor
My role as Foundation Governor is to ensure the Christian character of the school is secured, preserved and developed as well as supporting the school to be effective in achieving and exceeding.  My background is working in Education and Training for over 39 years, working across a range of ages and abilities in schools, colleges, staff training environments and various Government agencies.  I am (sort of!) retired but work a few hours a week in the Parish Office in Rufforth.  It is my pleasure to be able to contribute to Long Marston school.

Mrs Jane Burnell – Co-opted Governor
I have lived in the village for 10 years and my daughter attended the school.  I have a background in estate agency and insurance but now work freelance as a PA, mainly within the horse racing industry.  I have a special interest in learning difficulties gained through my own personal experience of my daughter's dyslexia.  I truly believe every child should have every opportunity to excel and am passionate about the long term
sustainability of our village school.

Dr Emma Clarke - Parent Governor
My role is to support the school in developing the very best education and experiences for all children at the school now, and in the years to come. As a parent governor I can also be the first port of call for parents wishing to bring any matters to governor meetings. As a mum of two children at the school I am well placed to understand parents’ views, and to share with the governing body how matters being discussed may affect parents. Aside from being a governor I have been involved in education for all of my working life, first as a primary school teacher and latterly as a lecturer on a PGCE course training primary school teachers.

Mrs Louise Flatters - Headteacher
As Headteacher of the school I am also a governor, involved in all governing body meetings.  I have over 20 years teaching experience in Primary and Infant schools, and have worked for five different local authorities.  I started in my role of Headteacher in September 2018, and I am delighted to be involved in leading the school working in partnership with the Governing Body.

Mrs Deana Massey - Parent Governor

Mr Gareth Mitchell - Co-opted Governor
I was a Parent Governor from 2014 until December 2018 and am now a co-opted governor, Vice Chair of Governors and Chair of the Finance, Resources, Health & Safety Committee.  I am a qualified chartered accountant with over 20 years’ experience working in senior finance roles for global insurance companies.  I have two children at the school and have links to the village through my wife’s family, who have lived in Long Marston for over 25 years.

Mr Justin Patterson - Staff Governor
I am the Key Stage Two teacher at Long Marston Primary and the nominated staff governor. I currently sit on the curriculum committee.

Dr Ellie Willard - Co-opted Governor
My career has centred mostly around education, including roles as a teaching assistant, teacher and head of department.  I am currently a senior lecturer in Psychology at Leeds Beckett University. My personal and professional interests are in special needs provision and child mental health, and I am delighted to contribute and be involved as a governor at Long Marston school. As a mum to three grown up daughters, I also understand the perspective of a parent and the importance that home-school links have for the child. I live in a village near Wetherby.
