Governors

Mrs Lindy Illingworth  - Chair of Governors
It is with great pleasure that I have been one of the two Foundation Governors on the Governing Body of Long Marston for the past four years. I represent our Vicar, Rev. Martin Otter. My career was in education, specialising in Early Years, teaching children and students in nurseries, schools and in further and higher education. I have children and grandchildren in the south of England and Australia. As a retiree I have the time to devote to the role of Chair of Governors, which I took on in 2018. I am delighted to be working with our senior management team, led by Mrs Flatters, and supporting them in providing high quality personalised learning and development opportunities for all our pupils.

Glynis Ashford - Foundation Governor
I am a Foundation Governor and live in Bilbrough where I am churchwarden. The place of the church in the education of our children is of great importance. I retired 10 years ago from a career in education and continue to have a great interest in the development and future of the education system.  I have supported village schools in the parish as a parent and grandparent and recognise the values and benefits to all the stakeholders and wider community of a school in its midst.

Mrs Thamara Bulmer - Local Authority Governor
I have been involved with the school governing body since 2017. Outside of this role I am a Programme Director and Lecturer at the University of Hull, delivering modules on the Early Childhood Studies programme and am also currently studying towards my EDD (Doctorate) in Early Childhood Studies.  I also hold the level 3 qualification for Forest School.

Mrs Jane Burnell – Co-opted Governor
I have lived in the village for 10 years and my daughter attended the school.  I have a background in estate agency and insurance but now work freelance as a PA, mainly within the horse racing industry.  I have a special interest in learning difficulties gained through my own personal experience of my daughter's dyslexia.  I truly believe every child should have every opportunity to excel and am passionate about the long term sustainability of our village school

Dr Emma Clarke - Parent Governor
My role is to support the school in developing the very best education and experiences for all children at the school now, and in the years to come. As a parent governor I can also be the first port of call for parents wishing to bring any matters to governor meetings. As a mum of two children at the school I am well placed to understand parents’ views, and to share with the governing body how matters being discussed may affect parents. Aside from being a governor I have been involved in education for all of my working life, first as a primary school teacher and latterly as a lecturer on a PGCE course training primary school teachers.

Mrs Louise Flatters - Headteacher
As Headteacher of the school I am also a governor, involved in all governing body meetings.  I have over 20 years teaching experience in Primary and Infant schools, and have worked for five different local authorities.  I started in my role of Headteacher in September 2018, and I am delighted to be involved in leading the school working in partnership with the Governing Body.

Mr Gareth Mitchell - Parent Governor
I have been a Parent Governor since September 2014 and am currently Vice Chair of Governors and Chair of the Finance, Resources, Health & Safety Committee.  I am a qualified chartered accountant with over 20 years’ experience working in senior finance roles for global insurance companies.  I have two children at the school and have links to the village through my wife’s family, who have lived in Long Marston for over 25 years.

Mr Justin Patterson - Staff Governor
I am the Key Stage Two teacher at Long Marston Primary and the nominated staff governor. I currently sit on the curriculum committee.

Mrs Eileen Visser - Associate Governor
I am an Associate Governor, on a short term basis, to support the school with its strategic direction. I have been involved with education all my working life undertaking a range of different roles. At the heart of my work has always been the best interests of all children enabling them to be the best they can be within an inclusive environment. This is my aim as a governor of Long Marston school.
