Welcome Back
We're halfway through the year already! You can keep up to date with what we're doing in the classroom by logging into Tapestry and following us on Twitter. Please see below the curriculum plan for Spring 2.
Maths
In Maths the children will be focussing on different types of measurement, continuing to work on time and beginning to work on height, length, mass, weight, capacity
Please continue to support your child in telling the time at home!
English
This term our topic of "Down Under" will be linked into English. We will start the term off by looking at non-fiction texts and creating our own fantastic Australian Animal Fact Files. We will read books set in Australis and we will begin to write our very own versions.
Science and Topic
This half terms topic is Down Under! The children will be looking at the similarities and differences between Long Marston and a part of Australia. Following on from the children's homework they will be identifying different animals habitats and features. We will also be creating our own aboriginal artwork.
In RE we will be learning about Lent, the Easter story and festivals of Islam. YoYo (York Schools and Youth Trust) will be visiting us for a fun-filled day all about Easter!

Each child will continue to have 3 reading books per week. Please support your child to read their individual reading book independently.
Don’t forget to note down any books you’ve read at home in their reading record too! We love to hear about all books!
Year 1 and Year 2 will continue to have weekly spellings.
Phonics and Spelling
EYFS will be revising phase 3 sounds and begin to write sentences.
Year 1 will recap the phonemes they have already learned as well as being introduced to new sounds and words.
Year 2 will revise their phase 1-5 knowledge and look at spelling patterns, especially with suffixes as well as common exception words.
