Our commitment to equality
The Equality Act 2010 introduced a single Public Sector Equality Duty that applies to all public bodies, including schools, and extends to certain protected characteristics - race, disability, sex, age, religion or belief, sexual orientation, pregnancy and maternity and gender reassignment.
In carrying out their functions, the Equality Duty requires public bodies to have due regard to the need to:
- eliminate discrimination and other conduct that is prohibited by the Act;
- advance equality of opportunity between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it;
- foster good relations across all characteristics - between people who share a protected characteristic and people who do not share it.
At Long Marston CE Primary School, we are committed to ensuring equality of provision for everyone in our school community. This is embedded in our core value of ‘Respect’ and in our school vision:
‘We value everyone as individuals and grow together as a family’
Our Single Equality Scheme provides more detail about our commitment to equality and how we achieve this in our school - you can download the Scheme below. The Scheme also includes our equality objectives and the action plan we have put in place to achieve these over the next four years:
Equality Objectives 2020-2024
- To encourage wider knowledge and respect of diversity including through direct teaching with our PHSE/RSE programme.
- To increase home-school communications for our flexi-schooling children and their families so that there are even more opportunities for sharing learning and progress.
- To look for opportunities to bring our geographically diverse families together more through events hosted at school.
- To develop our knowledge and expertise in supporting our SEN children; working with their families to make effective use of adjustments as needed to maximise their access to teaching and learning and good outcomes.
